Bhubaneswar, Sept. 12: The Institute of Physics here is planning to pump in more funds for its popular Outreach programme, which includes conducting various interesting science-based activities for school and college students.

In a letter to the department of atomic energy, the institute has requested to increase the funds.

The institute conducts the Outreach programme with an aim to raise awareness on contemporary physics, its impact on society and the opportunities it provides for all.

Various events, including science day celebrations, workshops and seminars on popular subjects for students are conducted from time to time as part of the programme. This apart, shows are also conducted in villages where scientists show the villagers audio-visuals that generate scientific curiosity among the masses, especially the young generation.

“A workshop on telescope making, which concluded recently, was a huge success. It got very good response from all government and private schools. Students are allowed to see all our equipment and discuss with the scientists directly. To encourage students’ participation, we have added a new equipment this year,” said director of the institute Ajit Mohan Srivastav.

“We are committed to develop a community of physicists equipped with skills to communicate with the public,” he said.

The institute celebrated its 39th foundation day last week.
