Cuttack, Jan. 30: Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) president of Odisha Utkal Kesari Parida today filed contempt petitions against Speaker Pradip Amat in Orissa High Court for not taking action against four of his party MLAs who had joined the BJD.
“Contempt applications were filed for wilful disobedience of the orders passed by Orissa High Court and the Supreme Court in connection with petitions filed by Parida,” counsel Gopal Agarwal told The Telegraph.
The high court had directed the Speaker on September 27, 2012, to take a decision within eight weeks and the Supreme Court had also directed the him on December 13 last to complete the proceedings by January 7, 2013, according to Agarwal.
The four legislators left the NCP and joined the BJD on June 5. The state NCP president filed applications before the Speaker on July 6 for disqualification of the four MLAs — Amar Prasad Satpathy (Barchana), Ramchandra Hansdah (Saraskana), Prashant Nanda (Begunia) and Nabin Nanda (Gondia) — from the Assembly.
