Paradip: Paradip port authorities here have apprised the Union ministry of shipping of the latest update on the MV Black Rose capsize following the demand for a CBI probe raised by trust board members.
Paradip Port Trust chairman Rinkesh Roy, in a letter addressed to the ministry, has sought appropriate action in the wake of a probe demand by the trust board members.
The trust members, in a board meeting held on December 15, had raised the issue and requested that the case of the sunken ship might be referred to a CBI inquiry, stated the letter. It was informed to them that the matter would be referred to the ministry for appropriate action in this regard, Roy's letter to the ministry said. The chairman also apprised the Centre of the litigation pending in this regard in Orissa High Court.
The wreckage of the sunken ship is yet to be retrieved from the sea. The furnace oil of the ship had been extracted a month after the accident. Kok Sitki, owner of the vessel that had capsized in 2009, was later found guilty of operating it using forged insurance and fitness papers.
The ship was running without a valid maritime licence, and the insurance and fitness papers were forged. The ship owner had earlier been served extradition notice by a court in Kujang here. However, the extradition is yet to be executed because of legal complications.
