Balasore: Tension prevailed in Remuna area as police is yet to trace two persons kidnapped by a gang of sand mafia on Tuesday evening. Purnachandra Giri and Niranjan Das were allegedly kidnapped by a group of 20 people led by Buna Mohanty and Manranjan Khatua. The kidnappers allegedly came in two vehicles and whisked away towards Bengal after picking them near Salbani, said the FIR lodged in the police station. Demanding their rescue and arrest of the anti-socials, villagers gheraoed the Industrial police station on Tuesday night . The agitators were pacified after police assured to take necessary action. Bhubaneswar: The Opposition parties on Wednesday came down heavily on the state government for neglecting the cause of scheduled castes and scheduled tribes. “Funds for various welfare programmes for the SCs and the STs are being diverted for other purposes. It should be immediately stopped and the government should launch an inquiry into the diversion,” said an Opposition member. Jajpur: A high level team of the Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan on Wednesday visited Kalinganagar to find out if the infrastructure there was suitable for the setting up of a Kendriya Vidyalaya. The team inspected the facilities on the N.C. High School premises here in the city. “We went around the places where the proposed central school will be located and discussed with the district authorities in this regard. We found the infrastructure suitable for the setting up of the school,” said Pitambar Das, a member of the team. Dhenkanal: To highlight the plight of the farmers in state in general and Dhenkanal in particular, a huge farmers rally was organised under the banner of Orissa Chasi Surakhya Abhiyan here. Leading farmer leaders across the state participated and addressed the rally. Later, a memorandum listing 29 charter of demand addressed to the state governor was handed over to the district collector Girish S.N. The demand listed eradicating crop loss of elephants, stopping cropland acquisition, and implementation of Rengali Irrigation Project for industries among others. Bhubaneswar: Tension spread at the Paradip oil refinery following a clash between some labourers and the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) jawans. As per reports, some labourers had tried to climb the refinery's boundary walls when the jawans opposed to it. This led to arguments between the two groups and the labourers ransacked the refinery office. The situation returned to normal after police intervened. BHUBANESWAR: The Rayagada police on Wednesday arrested six fake Naxals and seized many weapons from their possession. The accused persons used to stop vehicles at various places during night and conduct loot claiming themselves as Naxals, said police. The arrests were made on a tip-off, but two of them managed to flee, said the official. They have been forwarded to court.
