Cuttack: Orissa High Court on Monday directed agriculture minister Damodar Rout to surrender before the lower court. Responding to an anticipatory bail petition filed by Rout, the high court observed that in the event he surrenders before the court of judicial magistrate first class, “Rout shall be released on bail”. The single-judge bench of S.C. Parija issued the direction on the anticipatory bail petition which Rout had filed on apprehension of arrest in a case lodged against him at the Kujang police station under Section 3 of the Prevention of Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe Atrocities Act, 1989. anoj Kumar Bhoi on August 2010 had lodged a complaint against Rout for his alleged defamatory remarks against the Dalits. A case was registered against Rout under Section 3 of the Prevention of Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe Atrocities Act, 1989. The case has remained pending in the court of the first class judicial magistrate at Kujang. Bhubaneswar: The school and mass education department on Monday finalised the colour combination for uniforms that it is going to introduce for school students. Boys will be wearing grey trousers and multi-coloured checked shirts, while girls will be wearing checked shirts and grey frocks. The belt and tie will be black in colour while the shoes and socks will be black and white respectively. Each set of uniform will cost around Rs 700 and will be borne by the state government. Sambalpur: A 21-year-old student from the Silicon Engineering College, Sambalpur allegedly committed suicide at the college hostel on Monday. His dead body was found hanging from the fan in his hostel room. The deceased has been identified as Santosh Chaini, a first year mechanical engineering student. He hailed from Batiga Gaon under Patkura police jurisdiction in Kendrapara district. Police have seized a six-page suicide note addressed to his father Prashant Chaini. A case of unnatural death has been registered at the Sason police station. Cuttack: A total of 500 students were booked for malpractice on the sixth day of the ongoing matriculation examination being conducted by the Board of Secondary Education on Monday. They included 341 regular and 159 ex-regular candidates. The students were caught by the special squads while resorting to corrupt practices, BSE officials said. So far, 6,305 students have been booked for malpractice across the state and the number is expected to rise by the end of the exam on Tuesday. Bhubaneswar: Met officials here on Monday have warned of thunder squall accompanied with hail and gusty surface wind speed reaching 50 to 60kmph at one or two places in the state in the next 48 hours. The district administrations have been alerted on this, said a release.
