Jawan arrested for spying

Bhubaneswar: The Rourkela police on Friday arrested a CRPF jawan for allegedly passing on information to Maoists. The jawan, Satyawan Bhoi, was reportedly leaking sensitive information to rebels in the area. The police also seized ammunitions and Maoist literature from his possession. Some incrementing evidence have been found from the accused and he is being interrogated, said sources in the police.

Bhubaneswar: Thousands of tribals on Friday took to the streets in Balagir demanding action against fake tribals. The tribals decked up with traditional weapons shouted slogans and marched through the streets carrying placards. About 10,000 tribals participated in the procession. The protestors demanded that the administration should immediately identify the fake tribals and book them.

Fraud teacher

Kendrapara: A retired headmaster of a government-run high school was on Friday arrested on charge of embezzling provident funds deposit of a subordinate schoolteacher. The accused, Dharanidhar Mahapatra, was arrested on the basis of complaint lodged by Kendrapara circle inspector of schools. “Mahapatra, who retired recently as headmaster allegedly defalcated about Rs 2.5 lakh from the provident fund accounts of Rabindra Kumar Samantaray, a teacher. The matter was departmentally inquired and was found to be true. Later, an FIR was lodged by the police. The accused had drawn the sum from the district treasury by forging the specimen signature of provident fund account holder,” police said.

Body found

Paradip: Police on Friday retrieved body of a youth lying in a pool of blood near railway bridge junction in the heart of the port town. The deceased has been identified as Aravind Dubey, hailing from Chandikhol. The body bore several injury marks. Preliminary police investigation is yet to throw light on the deceased's antecedents and cause of his death, said police sources.

Paddy seized

Bhubaneswar: The district civil supplies wing personnel have made a seizure of two truck loads of paddy near Jagat- singhpur district headquarter town. The seizure was made on reports that the paddy consignment procured by millers from government-run procurement centres was being smuggled to a neighbouring state. case has been registered in this connection and the matter is being investigated, said civil supplies department officials.
