Bhadrak: Three students drowned while taking bath in a creek near their village here on Tuesday. The deceased have been identified as Badal Jena, 17, Ramakanta Palai, 14, and his younger brother Laxmidhar Palai, 13, of Erandi village under Gobindapur gram panchayat of Bata block. They were all students of Purosttam Sethi High school. The bodies were fished out by local fishermen. “While one of them slipped into the water accidentally, the other drowned trying to save him. The bodies have been sent for autopsy,” said Manoj Rout, inspector in-charge of Bhadrak rural police station. Rourkela: A man was sentenced to seven years of rigorous imprisonment for raping a married woman in March, 2008. The victim, who was from Kinjirikela, was raped by Parabal Minz, 33, of the same village while she was returning to her home after selling vegetables at the market. Parabal offered her a lift on his bicycle and raped her on the way. He also threatened her with dire consequences if she reported the matter to the police. Additional district sessions judge, Sundargarh, Anand Chandra Behera while convicting the accused, also imposed Rs 3,000 fine. Berhampur: Chatrapur police have seized two mobile phones and three SIM cards from Gouri Shankar Jena, an undertrail, from inside Chatrapur Sub Jail. “We seized two mobile phones and three SIM cards from Jena who was lodged in cell number 6,” Dilip Tripathy, IIC, Chatrapur police station, said. Jena was lodged in the jail in a docaity case.
