Bhubaneswar: The state government plans to make kidney transplant available in the prestigious S.C.B. Medical College at Cuttack. tate health minister Prasanna Acharya said: “A patient has to spend only Rs 50,000 for kidney transplant. The poor people will receive benefit from the scheme.” At present, a patient spends nearly Rs 5 lakh for kidney transplantation. The state is also planning to introduce bio-metric cards in all three medical colleges. Bhubaneswar: The dengue death toll rose from 20 to 23 with three more deaths reported from private hospitals where the patients were under treatment. Out of the three deceased, one person belonged to Jharsuguda district and the other two were from to Angul district. Bhubaneswar: The Nationalist Lawyers Forum (NLF) on Friday filed a PIL seeking intervention of Orissa High Court for “smooth running of 1,883 Block Grant High Schools which have remained closed since August 1 due to indefinite strike by teachers.” NLF Secretary, Nishikanta Mishra, alleged that nearly 4,00,000 students have been affected as 25,000 teachers and employees of the 1,883 private schools which receive block grants from the state government were on strike. The government had not taken effective steps to “defuse the agitation,” said Mishra. Bhubaneswar: The woman employee of Bhubaneswar Development Authority, who had lodged complaint with the Mahila police on July 25 against the vice-chairman and executive engineer of Division IV alleging that they had made casteist remarks on her, was found to have got the job by producing fake caste certificates. Cuttack: An assistant sub-inspector of Jagatpur police station was on Friday arrested by the vigilance department while accepting a bribe from a person. The police official, identified as Mahendra Mallick, was caught red-handed while taking a bribe of Rs 1,000 from L.K. Mohapatra for issuing a copy of compromise petition to the complainant in connection with a case, vigilance SP A.K. Mohanty said. Bhubaneswar: A group of elephants entered the Kacharu Government Upper Primary School at Kaurmunda Block in Sundargarh district and destroyed some portion of the school. Around 289 students study in this school. The elephants also destroyed the paddy fields which surround the school.
