4 kids killed in accident

Balasore: Four children between age of 11 and 12 years of Bariha gram panchayat under Oupada block died after falling from a hill on Sunday. They fell in a rain water-filled low-pitch area, created out of quarry activities. he deceased were identified as Satyaranjan Khautal, Prahallad Parida, Prasanna Parida of Astapanta village and Satyabrata Jena of Bariha village. The police said, the kids were students of a primary school. The victims fell on the gorge-like structure near a hill at Rangamatia. The autopsy on the bodies would be conducted after inquest,” said S.P. Mallick, sub-divisional police officer of Nilgiri.

Scribe dies

Bhubaneswar: Eminent journalist Rabi Narayan Mohanty, 68, died here on Sunday. He started his career with a local vernacular daily and later, worked with various leading newspaper of the state. He was the founding member of the Orissa Union of Journalists, affiliated to the National Union of Journalists. overnor M.C. Bhandare, chief minister Naveen Patnaik, information and public relation minister Surjya Naryan Patro condoled his death.

Tiger death

Bhubaneswar: Ashok, an 18-year-old male tiger from city-based Nandankanan zoo, died on Sunday because of weakness and old age. he tiger had been unwell for the last one month and its condition deteriorated three days ago. As its condition deteriorated on Saturday, the tiger was shifted to zoo hospital where it was admitted to the intensive care unit. He died on Sunday morning. “Ashok was old as the tigers in general live up to 20 years. The post-mortem report also revealed that the animal was suffering from liver cancer,” said Prof. Suren Panda of the College of Veterinary Sciences at Orissa University of Agriculture and Technology, who conducted the post-mortem.

Firing arrest

Cuttack: Four persons were arrested in connection with the recent firing at Cuttack Development Authority, Sector 7. The accused were identified as Chandan Prasad of Mangalabag, Mohammad Saheed of Pension Lane, Seikh Qadir and Seikh Abdula. n August 17 night, all the accused had an altercation with another local group led by one Lalan Gupta near Tarini Temple at around 10pm. ater, Chandan fired two rounds on Gupta, who had escaped unhurt. The police said the firing incident was the fall out of past rivalry between the two groups.

LPG raids

Berhampur: A squad of the civil supplies and consumer welfare department on Sunday raided many hotels and eateries in the city and seized domestic liquefied petroleum gas cylinders being used for commercial purpose. We have seized 44 LPG cylinders from various commercial establishments like hotels and eateries during the raids,” said assistant civil supplies officer Mohan Sunder Dalsinghray.
