Rural job scheme

Bhubaneswar: The state government on Monday wrote a letter to the Centre requesting not to discontinue funding to the six districts, where the CBI probe was going on into the misappropriation of money under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS). Panchyati raj secretary P.K. Jena said: “This move would badly affect the development works in six districts, which were under scanner for irregularities. We should be allowed to divert funds from other districts to take up the works.”

Prasad case

Bhubaneswar: Maoist leader Ghanti Prasadam will be produced before the Koraput sub-divisional judicial magistrate court on June 30. arlier, the state government had decided to withdraw all the cases filed against Prasadam under the Similiguda police limits as an agreement to release former Malkangiri collector R. Vineel Krishna.

Housing

Bhubaneswar: State housing and urban development minister Sarada Prasada Naik on Monday appealed the bankers to make easy availability of money to the poor living in the urban areas who want to construct their own houses. The bankers should come forward with a humanitarian approach and never suspect all the applicants as defaulters. After all, the scheme is to upgrade the lifestyle of the urban poor,” he said. He was addressing the state-level workshop on Interest Subsidy Scheme for Housing the Urban Poor and Swarna Jayanti Sahari Rojgar Yojna. Naik also expected the beneficiaries to make most of the scheme. According to sources, 7,000 beneficiaries have shown their interest in this scheme.

ACP charge

Bhubaneswar: An additional deputy commissioner of police would investigate into the allegations made by a homeguard deployed in the police control room against assistant commissioner of police (ACP) Radha Krushna Mohaptra for allegedly beating him on June 17. omeguard Mangaraj Biswal said on Monday that he would meet the State Human Rights Commission on Tuesday if the higher authorities did not take any action against the ACP. The homeguard had alleged that he was beaten up by the ACP for going on leave during the Raja festival. He had lodged a complaint with the Sahid Nagar police in this regard. An additional DCP has been given the charge to probe into the matter. Whoever found guilty will be punished,” said DCP Nitinjit Singh.

Wetland atlas

Bhubaneswar: Chief minister Naveen Patnaik on Monday inaugurated the State Wetland Atlas at a function at the Secretariat. The Orissa Space Application Centre along with the Space Application Centre, Ahmedabad, has prepared this map. Naveen hoped that this map would be helpful for research and to module frameworks for development of wetland.
