Village head, cop spat

Bhubaneswar: Badpadar sarpanch Jayram Khora has said Malkangiri superintendent of police Anirudh Singh would be held responsible if the former went missing or was killed in an encounter. Khora, who is currently on the run as Chhattisgarh police wants him as a witness in a case related to alleged payment of protection money to Maoists by Essar company, has videotaped his controversial statement. he superintendent is said to have denied the charges. Chhattisgarh police are likely to visit Malkangiri in connection with the case, which had hit newspaper headlines recently.

Eviction

Cuttack: Orissa High Court on Wednesday fixed a 10-day deadline for the state government to submit a report on steps taken to evict unauthorised occupants and construct a boundary wall at the VSS Medical College Hospital in Burla.he two-judge bench of Chief Justice V. Gopala Gowda and justice B.N. Mohapatra fixed the deadline after the state government sought time for it on Wednesday.

Bullets seized

Cuttack: Tangi police on Wednesday recovered a mauzer, 11 rounds of live bullet and two magazines from a motor repairing shop Khairpar. The owner of the motorcycle repairing shop Sukant Mohapatra alias Muna has also been detained in this connection. The seizure came when goons allegedly injured another mechanic identified as Mohammad Kamaruddin, 52, in the firing at around 11am on Wednesday.

Protest

Bhubaneswar: Students of the Talgach Upper Primary School in Balangir on Wednesday staged protest before the district magistrate’s office against the low quality of food provided to them under the mid-day meal scheme. The students alleged that they were regularly being served rotten eggs and curry made out of rotten vegetables.

Low pressure

Bhubaneswar: Tuesday’s well-marked low-pressure area over east central and adjoining north Bay of Bengal intensified into a depression and lay centred over north Bay of Bengal on Wednesday. t then moved towards northeast and further intensified into a deep depression and lay centred over northeast Bay of Bengal about 330km east-southeast of Digha, met officials informed on Wednesday. The system is likely to intensify further into a cyclonic storm and move further towards northeast and cross Bangladesh coast close to Cox’s Bazaar by Wednesday night.

Talcher visit

Angul:Union minister of state for coal Pratik Prakash Patil will visit Talcher on Thursday to review mining works here. Talcher coalfield has been on a downward trend for last two years, affecting the performance and growth of not only Mahanadi Coalfields Limited but also Coal India. Patil will arrive at Talcher at 11am.
