President seeks probe

Bhubaneswar: President Pratibha Patil has written a letter to the Election Commission directing it to conduct a probe into the alleged horse trading in Orissa during the 2010 Rajya Sabha polls. ndependent MLA from Biramitrapur, George Tirkey had petitioned the President urging her to direct the Election Commission to conduct a probe on the matter. The Chief Election Commissioner also received a copy of the letter from the President.

Gangster shot

Kendrapara: Police on Tuesday overpowered an alleged gangster after a brief exchange of fire. The goon was grievously injured following an encounter with local police patrol squad on the outskirts of this district headquarters township during the wee hours. The history-sheeter Narayan Ojha, an active member of a crime syndicate, fought a gunfight with police forces till the latter shot him. jha, facing trial in a series of criminal cases, capitulated after three bullets pierced his left leg. The injured criminal was later shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack.

Gangrape

Balasore: A Plus Three student of a local college, who was reported missing last Thursday, was allegedly gangraped by her friend and some other people.he victim, who is under severe trauma, was admitted to the district headquarters hospital on Saturday. owever, the medical examination report is said to be inconclusive. The tests were carried out three days after the alleged assault took place. Baliapal Police have launched a manhunt to nab the main accused.

Retirement

Bhubaneswar: The Congress on Tuesday demanded enhancement of retirement age for state government employees from 58 to 60 years.
