Balasore: The junior engineers of Nesco, the energy distribution company of north Orissa, under the banner of the Orissa State Electricity Corporation Engineers’ Association, on Monday held demonstrations in front of Nesco’s corporate office at Januganj to press their demands. The agitators’ list of demands included adequate men and material for supply and maintenance for uninterrupted power service, enhancement of promotion facilities, reduction of training period for the engineers to one year from existing two years and their immediate posting, 25 litres of fuel per month as conveyance instead of allowances, and pension for the junior engineers.

Sexual assault

Bhubaneswar: A 38-year-old migrant tribal labourer was arrested on Monday by Kendrapara police on charge of subjecting a homemaker to sexual assault in Barimula village, about 18km from here. The victim is also from scheduled tribe community. “The accused, Chandan Murmu, has confessed to committing the crime. He claimed to have outraged the modesty of the victim under the influence of alcohol,” said Ranjan Kumar Dey, inspector, Kendrapara rural police station.

Hearing held

Cuttack: Orissa High Court on Monday adjourned hearing on the necessity of a CBI probe to look for reasons behind the Orissa Hydro Power Corporation (OHPC)’s alleged failure to generate and add a single MW more power even after spending Rs 229 crore till April 25. Though the case was listed on Monday, it could not be taken up for hearing as the court was suspended after lunch because of the demise of a member of the high court bar.
