Bhubaneswar: The state government has announced an ex-gratia of Rs 50,000 to each of those who died after being struck by lightening on Monday. Ten people died on Monday. While two each died in Khurda, Sundergarh, Keonjhar and Ganjam districts, one each died in Dhenkanal and Deogarh districts. The district collectors have been asked to take steps in this regard. Bhubaneswar: Information and public relations minister Surjya Naryan Patro on Tuesday assured industrialists in New Delhi that all sorts of facilities would be provided to the industrial units at Kalinga Nagar industrial corridor in Jajpur district. “There is no problem for land acquisition in this area. The state also has rich mineral resources,” Patro said. He added that 1,200 displaced families were rehabilitated following the rehabilitation and resettlement policy of the state. Bhubaneswar: Rourkela police on Tuesday solved the Jarada bank dacoity case and arrested five dacoits. Five pistols were seized from them. Police recovered Rs 2.70 lakh. The dacoits had fled with Rs 6 lakh from the bank at gun point. Police identified the gang members from the footages of CCTV installed at the bank. The gang also looted a State Bank of India branch at Mahelapalli in Sambalpur district. However, the mastermind of the gang, a student of the University of Pune, is yet to be arrested. Bhubaneswar: National Aluminium Company Limited (Nalco) felicitated mountaineer Jogabyasa Bhoi with a cash award of Rs 1 lakh for conquering Mount Everest. At a felicitation ceremony held at Nalconagar, Angul, P.R. Choudhury, executive director of Smelter and Power Complex, handed over the cheque to Bhoi in the presence of additional district magistrate Debaraj Senapati, superintendent of police Satyabrata Bhoi and senior officials of Nalco. Bhoi is the third Oriya to scale Mt Everest. Bhubaneswar: The state-level blood donation day was celebrated here by the Red Cross Society. Speaking on the occasion, health minister Prasanna Acharya said in order to facilitate better availability of blood at every major hospital across the state, the government would have more blood transportation vehicles. People donating blood at regular intervals were also felicitated on the occasion. Bhubaneswar: After southern Orissa’s tryst with monsoon showers on Monday, the Indian Meteorological department on Tuesday said monsoon clouds would reach the central and northern parts of the state in the next 48 hours. Angul, Dhenkanal, Talcher, Baripada, Balasore and Bhadrak areas may experience rain. On Monday, Rayagada town received 154mm rainfall, the highest one among all the south Orissa towns.
