Bhubaneswar: Suspended BJD MLA Debasis Nayak on Sunday organised a meeting in his Bari constituency. “The purpose of the meeting is not a show of strength, but to give a message from the platform that few leaders are trying to hijack the party,” Nayak said. Only a fortnight ago, Nayak was suspended from the party for criticising the BJD second-in-command Pyari Mohan Mohapatra. Jajpur: Dharmasala police on Sunday arrested two persons and forwarded them to court for allegedly stocking large quantity of illegal explosives in their houses here.he accused were remanded in judicial custody after their bail applications were rejected. They were identified as one Rabindra Kumar Parida (42), a resident of Jogada village and Akshaya Kumar Sahu (29) of Ramachandrapur village under Jenapur police limits. The seized explosives include 450kg of ammonium nitrate, 450 live detonators, and 200 gelatin sticks. The police said the explosives were intended to be used in carrying out illegal mining in the area. Sambalpur: Two persons died in a road accident in Bhawanipali under Jujomura police limit of Sambalpur district, 20km from here. The deceased have been identified as Chittaranjan Naik and Ranjit Naik. ccording to police, Chittaranjan and Ranjit were going to Boudh to distribute invitation cards for a marriage with a motorcycle. They stopped on the side of the highway at Bhawanipali to receive a call on their mobile. A truck going towards Bhubaneswar ran over the duo when they were standing on the side of the highway and busy talking on phone. The duo died on the spot. Bhubaneswar: A female Russell’s Viper on Sunday gave birth to 13 offsprings at the rescue centre of the city-based Snake Helpline. The mother snake was rescued from Bomikhal, but sensing that the snake is pregnant, the members at Snake Helpline kept it in their centre. “All the offsprings are doing fine along with the mother,” said Subhendu Mallik, secretary of the organisation working for rescuing snakes in the city. Unlike other snakes, the viviparous Russell’s Viper gives birth to young snakes.
