Bhubaneswar: The state government has filed a review petition before the Orissa Electricity Regulatory Commission (OERC) to reconsider its decision on power tariff hike. “We have filed the petition before the OERC and asked it not to pass the burden of the power companies to the general consumer,” said energy minister Atanu Sabyasachi Nayak. In its petition, the state government has raised questions as to how it had prompted to raise the hike by 150 per cent. Meanwhile, Orissa High Court has imposed a stay on power tariff hike, that was to be implemented from April 1. Bhubaneswar: Union forest and environment minister Jairam Ramesh on Monday sent an email to chief minister Naveen Patnaik asking him to look into the email sent by the Posco Pratirodh Sangram Samiti (PPSS), the outfit fighting against the Posco project, which had claimed that they were the traditional forest-dwellers living in the proposed Posco project site at Dhinkia in Jagatsingpur district. Ramesh stated that it was the state government’s responsibility to verify the facts and inform New Delhi. Bhubaneswar: The directorate of factories and boilers on Monday asked the Asiatic Gas Plant in Rourkela to immediately shut down the factory. On Saturday, some cylinders in the factory exploded killing three workers on the spot. Bhubaneswar: Unidentified motorcycle-borne criminals on Monday hurled bombs at the residential quarters of the vice-chairman of Paradip Municipality triggering tension in the port town. The vice-chairman, Basant Kumar Biswal, and his family members, who were at the quarters in Madhuban when the incident took place, however escaped unhurt.
