Sambalpur: Five women labourers were killed and three others seriously injured in a road accident near Bargarh town when a mini truck and goods-laden truck collided head on. The accident took place on NH-6. According to local police, the women were coming to Dusmile from Tora. They worked at a spinning mill at Dasmile. Balasore: One Jadunath Jena, 40, died at a quarry near Mitrapur under Nilgiri police limits, 20km from here when the detonators blast due to lightning. Another worker at the site, Biswanath Behera, 42, was also injured. Bhubaneswar: A mysterious disease has claimed five lives so far in Andrapali area in Bonda Ghati in Malkangiri dis-trict. According to locals, the affected people first catch fever and later de-velop other symptoms. Keonjhar: A man allegedly hacked his 35-year-old son to death at Balita village under Barbil police limits on Saturday night. The deceased, a father of two, has been identified as Senapati Nayak. The neighbours of Senapati informed the police and the accused was arrested on Sunday. During investigation, it was revealed the son, in an inebriated state, had quarrelled with his septuagenarian father. The police claimed the accused has confessed to the crime. “Senapati came home in a drunken state. He scolded his father Kanhei Nayak, 70, who was dining. Later, the son threw away the food served to his father. Suddenly Kanhei lost his temper and hit Senapati with an axe.” Bhubaneswar: Congress leader in charge of Orissa affairs, Jagdish Tytler, arrived here on Sunday to oversee the preparations for the pro-posed two-day visit of AICC general secretary Rahul Gandhi. Rahul would arrive on July 13. Berhampur: Local police on Sunday seized a police service revolver from a temple dacoit, which was looted by Maoists five years ago. The main accused, Sunil Pradhan of Kumbharabada under Daringibadi police limits of Kandhamal dis-trict, had the revolver, which had been taken away by the Maoists.
