Heat wave in state

Bhubaneswar: The capital recorded a maximum temperature of 40.6°C on Tuesday despite a number of thunderstorms taking place in the recent past. ccording to official sources at the Indian meteorology department here, the heat wave-like condition would continue till Thursday at the state capital. rissa recorded a heat wave like condition on Tuesday with more than 14 places reporting a daytime temperature more than 40°C. While the coal belt town of Talcher recorded 44°C, the nearby industrial town Angul recorded 43°C.

One killed

Bhubaneswar: One person was killed in a road accident in the busy Ashok Nagar area in the city on Tuesday. The deceased has been identified as Dillip Nayak, 30, from Gandhi Nagar area in Jatani on the outskirts of the city. According to police, he was heading to Rajamahal Square from Master Canteen on a motorcycle when his vehicle was hit by another motorcycle. Nayak was killed on the spot. Capital police took the body to the hospital where he was declared brought dead. Police seized the deceased's motorcycle. The other motorist left the spot unhurt.

Vigilance raid

Bhubaneswar: The state vigilance officials on Tuesday conducted raids on the houses of Subash Chandra Pal, assistant engineer of the water resources department, for allegedly acquiring assets disproportionate to his known sources of income. The officials conducted raids on his four-storeyed house at Nayapalli and office in Narasighpur area in Cuttack. The estimated amount of his assets were found to be more than one crore.

Vivek Express

Bhubaneswar: Vivek Express, the exhibition-on-wheels train launched by the Indian Railways to commemorate the 150th birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda, reached here on Tuesday. The train will be open for public viewing at Mancheswar railway station from Wednesday till Friday. The five-coach air-conditioned train is exhibiting photographs and write-ups displaying the life and works of Swamiji. An outlet has also been set up in the train to sell books, pamphlets and pictures in collaboration with Ramakrishna Mission. Apart from the exhibition at Mancheswar, the train will be available for public viewing on May 14 and 15 in Berhampur, May 16 to 18 at Rayagada, May 19 and 20 at Koraput. The train, which was flagged off from Howrah station in Bengal on January 12 by railways minister Mamata Banerjee, will run across the country till January 12, 2013, spreading the message of harmony and unity amongst the masses.

Bodies found

Cuttack: Two more bodies were recovered from the boat mishap site at Kolab reservoir on Tuesday. With this, the death toll in the boat capsize has reached seven. On Monday, five bodies were recovered from the site by the Orissa Disaster Rapid Action Force (Odraf). The mishap occurred at Koraput’s Kolab reservoir.
