Dhenkanal: An elephant killed three persons including a three-year-old child and injured another person by trampling them at Thuriasanda village in Dhenkanal district on Monday night. Alleging incompetence of the forest department officials to tackle the elephant menace, local residents blocked a road in protest. he ranger of Bhuban forest range has declared a compensation of Rs 2 lakh for the family of the deceased. Bhubaneswar: Yogabyas Bhoi, the third Oriya to scale Mt Everest met chief minister Naveen Patnaik on Tuesday. Bhoi scaled the tallest peak of the world on May 19. He spoke to Naveen on his experience in the Himalayas. Bhoi's guide Namgyl Sherpa was also present during the discussion. Sports and youth services minister Badrinarayan Patra and senior officials were also present. Bhubaneswar: The Commissionerate Police had attended 5,000 calls in the month of May through their modern police control room (PCR) and had successfully taken action. In the monthly review meeting on PCR, it was found that through the PCR, the city police had successfully taken 182 injured people to the hospitals, of whom five were severely injured. Besides, they had taken three people affected by sunstroke to the hospital and had also rescued four women and 10 children from the roadside. Sources said that 80 drunkards were taken from the roadside to the police station and were fined. Five persons were rescued while attempting to commit suicide. Besides, 21 criminals were arrested by the PCR vans.
