RI in vigilance net

Sambalpur: Sambalpur vigilance division has registered a case against a revenue inspector (RI) for allegedly demanding illegal gratification. According to sources, Ramakanta Dwibedi, RI of Rampur at Rairakhol block, allegedly demanded illegal gratification of Rs 500 from one Seshadev Naik for demarcation of his land. The vigilance department officials said: “Dwivedi was caught red-handed by the vigilance officials while demanding and accepting the bribe money from the complainant at his office in Rairakhol.” The tainted notes have been recovered from the accused and seized in presence of witnesses.

Rain forecast

Bhubaneswar: Rain along with thundershowers is expected in the next 48 hours along the Orissa coast. According to the Indian meteorology department, monsoon will be passing through central regions of Karnataka and Maharashtra in the next 48 hours. If the movement of monsoon stays like these, it is expected that the clouds will reach the Orissa coast by June 10.

Cricket

Cuttack: Cuttack emerged as the winner in the inter-district women cricket championship. In the final match, Cuttack defeated Dhenkanal by two wickets at the Ravenshaw University ground. Madhusmita Behara of Cuttack was adjudged as the eve of the match for her splendid performance.

AIR exam

Cuttack: All India Radio (AIR), Cuttack, conducted the examinations for its vacant announcer and host posts. Despite a court order, which had stayed the recruitment process of the AIR, authorities carried out the examinations.

New secretary

Bhubaneswar: Former higher education secretary Madhusudan Padhi has joined as the food supplies and consumer welfare secretary after returning from a foreign trip. As the former secretary of the department, Ashok K.K. Meena, has gone on central deputation, revenue and disaster management secretary R.K. Sharma was in the additional charges of the department.

Venison arrest

Kendrapara: Forest personnel have seized 2kg of raw meat of a male spotted deer at Bhitarkanika national park and arrested a man, who allegedly ran a poaching syndicate in the area. he accused Arabinda Parida was arrested on Saturday from his house in Rajendranagar village close to the national park. The accused had trapped the animal and later killed it to sell the meat. He had buried the antlers and hide and those were to be retrieved, said forest officials.he deer was trapped by nylon loop net and later killed by the offender who had intruded into core area of the forest. The accused has confessed to the crime. Search is on to arrest other members of the poaching racket, said Manoj Kumar Mahapatra, divisional forest officer, Rajnagar Mangrove (wildlife) forest division.
