National Science Day State IPS Cheque case Census Vaccination Felicitation

National Science Day

Bhubaneswar: The Central Institute of Freshwater aquaculture (CIFA) here observed National Science Day on Monday hosting a science awareness programme for school students. Nearly 400 school children from neighbouring high schools took part in the event. This year’s theme for the day was “Chemistry in our lives”. Children took out a procession holding placards and slogans on various issues. They also toured the fish farm, hatcheries, production systems and integrated farming systems.

State IPS

Bhubaneswar: State IPS officer Arup Pattnaik has been appointed as the Mumbai police commissioner. The 1979 batch IPS officer had been serving as the additional director general (traffic) for the past four years. The announcement came after the current director general of police D.ivanandhan retired on Monday.

Cheque case

Bhubaneswar: A businessman has been convicted for bouncing of a cheque of Rs 1 lakh drawn on the local branch of UCO Bank. Khurda SDJM Rajesh Das sentenced Ratanlal Agarawal, the trader, to undergo imprisonment for two years apart from a fine of Rs 1.5 lakh.

Census

Bhubaneswar: Collection of data on the homeless population before counting for census of the homeless begins on Monday. The voluntary bodies have been asked to help out with as much data as they can and share information with respective wards in the city so that enumerators in that ward have access to that additional information. They would also accompany enumerators during the census across the city.

Vaccination

Bhubaneswar: The state government has approved for introduction of second dose of measles vaccine in the state. In a notification issued by the health and family welfare department says measles vaccine is already in the vaccination schedule of the state. owever, the state-level technical committee has strongly opined introduction of second dose of measles vaccine in the state.

Felicitation

Bhubaneswar: Governor M.C. Bhandare felicitated scientist R. Bhima Rao and his student T. Laxmi of the Institute of Minerals and Materials Technology with Institution award at a function in Bhubaneswar. The duo were awarded for their paper stating recovery of magnetifferous titanium placer minerals from red sediments using high tension roll separator. ravin Chandra Bhanjadeo, minister of sports and youth services, and Prof. Deb Kumar Tripathy, vice-chancellor of Veer Surendra Sai University of Technology, Burla attended the event.
