Software accord

Bhubaneswar: The Software Technology Parks of India, an organisation under the Union ministry of communications and information technology, and the state government signed an MoU to set up a centre in Balasore. It will facilitate and support entrepreneurs of northern Odisha. The state government will provide 10,000sqft of built up space, three acres and Rs 1 crore as grant-in-aid for it.

Rape charge

Bhubaneswar: Police arrested a 14-year-old boy for raping a six-year-old girl at Mancheswar village on October 21. The cops also arrested his mother, who had manhandled the girl’s family members after they had accused the boy.

Goons attack

Bhubaneswar: Goons attacked the general secretary of the Santosh Vihar Welfare Association at Laxmi Sagar Canal road for opposing an illegal construction on a government plot in the area. Local residents had been opposing the construction by a private builder and complained to the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation against it. They alleged that the builder had sent goons to attack Dhirendranath Khatua.

Helmet must

Bhubaneswar: The state transport authority has written to the higher education department to make helmets among college students compulsory. Transport commissioner Manoj Ahuja said the majority of road accident victims were two-wheeler drivers and youngsters.

Insurance

Bhubaneswar: The state government has signed an MoU with insurance companies for providing insurance cover to farmers under the Biju Krushak Kalyan Yojana project. After the tender, four companies were selected.
