BJD stand

Bhubaneswar, May 23: The BJD parliamentary party will meet tomorrow at Naveen Nivas here to discuss the party stand in Parliament. 'We are yet to decide whether we will extend issue-based support to the BJP-led NDA or maintain a distance from it. All these things will be made clear soon,' said a senior leader. All the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha members belonging to the BJD will attend the meeting.

Chief whip

Bhubaneswar: Rairakhole MLA Rohit Pujari will be Biju Janata Dal's deputy chief whip in the Assembly. Earlier, Sanjay Dasburma used to hold the post. The BJD has already announced that its senior MLA from Bhograi, Ananta Das, will be its chief whip.

One held

Cuttack: Police on Friday arrested one more person allegedly involved in the kidney racket in the city. The accused has been identified as Nirakar Choudhry, 33. Earlier, Managalabag police had arrested Sarmitha Nayak for luring Padmini Nayak of Thoria Sahi to donate one of her kidneys in exchange of money.

Two hurt

Cuttack: At least two persons were injured when crude bombs were hurled at a computer shop at Arunodaya market complex near Link Road on Friday. The incident occurred around 2:35pm when two persons had come to purchase laptop from a shop.

Group clash

Kendrapara: At least a dozen of persons were injured following a clash between two factions at Kalasapur village in the Aul police station limits, about 30km from here. The incident took place on Thursday when a section of villagers opposed the earth-digging by the rival group.

Killer nabbed

Bhubaneswar: Police arrested a youth on Friday for killing his mother. The police said the accused, Souriya Behera, 31, crushed the head of his mother, Sulata Behera, 61, with a stone following a quarrel over a petty issue. The incident took place when Sulata was sleeping in the house.
