Mercury soars

Bhubaneswar: Various parts of the state continued to reel from severe heatwave conditions with mercury hovering above 40°C at around 13 places. Titilagarh was the hottest place today with 45°C followed by Sambalpur with 44.9°C. Weathermen forecast the extreme heat wave conditions might prevail over some parts of the state during next 48 hours.

Exams

Cuttack: The annual supplementary examination will start from June 17. Though the examination schedule is yet to be announced, officials said that students could enrol themselves for the supplementary examination at their respective schools for a period of two days from May 26. The students instead of filing up forms will just have to sign in a data sheet and would be directly enrolled for the supplementary examination.

Remand

Jeypore: Five assailants who had brutally assaulted the brother and nephew of senior Congress leader and newly elected legislator from Jeypore Tara Prasad Bahinipati inside a hotel have been taken on remand by the Town Police on Wednesday. A special police team led by additional superintendent of police Mitrabhanu Mohapatra is interrogating the five accused — Hrudananda Nayak, Sabyasachi Parida, Sanjay Suna, Chiranjibi Patnaik and Rajendra Sahu.

Train time

Bhubaneswar: Railways have decided to extend the services of Howrah-Chennai Premium Weekly Super Fast Special train till the last week of June. Besides, the railways have also decided to run a weekly special express train on last week of May and first week of June between Secunderabad and Guwahati.

Demise

Bhubaneswar: Former professor of commerce of Utkal University, Bijay Narayan Pattnaik, 78, died on Wednesday.
