Bhubaneswar: Police sounded a high alert in Puri following the serial blasts in Hyderabad on Thursday evening that claimed at least 16 lives. Security has been stepped up in and around the Jagannath temple, with sevayats demanding installation of metal detectors and CCTV cameras for better security. A team, led by Puri deputy superintendent of police, inspected various locations of the holy town, including the beach and hotels. Director general of police Prakash Mishra has also instructed all superintendents of police to tighten security measures in their respective districts. Bhubaneswar: The Crime Branch has launched a poster campaign to raise awareness among people about various types of frauds, including those in real estate and chit funds. It will also launch a toll-free helpline for people to register their complaints and grievances, which would be immediately attended to, said additional DGP of Crime Branch B.K. Sharma on Friday. Bhubaneswar: A Class III student of a primary school in Khurda on Friday suffered severe burn injuries after hot starch fell on him. He was admitted to the hospital with 60 per cent burns. Following the incident, irate locals ransacked the school, flinging rice and dal stocked for midday meal. They also locked the teachers and headmistress. The situation gained normality after police intervened. Bhubaneswar: Security forces busted a Maoist camp in a forest in Kandhamal district and seized some materials belonging to the rebels. However, no rebel was arrested. The combing operation was undertaken jointly by the Central Reserve Police Forces, district voluntary force and Special Operations Group on Thursday, said Kandhamal superintendent of police J.N. Pankaj. Bhubaneswar: A group of five goons looted an ATM in Jharsuguda district on Friday. While the residents were able to catch hold of one of them, four escaped with around Rs 60,000. The accused was handed over to the police, who have launched a manhunt to nab the other members of the gang.
