Bhubaneswar: The state government on Friday decided to release an additional amount of pension to widows, the elderly and differently-abled persons living in flood-affected areas. The additional pension allowance will be paid to the beneficiaries next month and the extra cost of Rs 14 crore will be borne out of the chief minister’s relief fund. Besides, financial assistance will also be provided to weavers, mulberry cultivators and fishermen affected by the flood. These decisions were taken at a meeting chaired by chief minister Naveen Patnaik on Friday. Bhubaneswar: The state steel and mines department has collected Rs 249.7538 crore mining revenue in the month of October. This year’s annual target up to October 2011 was Rs 2093.50 crore against last year’s collection of mining revenue was Rs 1769.62 crore. Bhubaneswar: The school and mass education department has taken action against 10 teachers in connection with mid-day meal programme. Two teachers have been suspended, two was served showcause notices while salary of seven has been withheld. The cases are from different schools in Mayurbhanj, Ganjam, Titilagarh, Jaipur, Balasore, Kendrapara and Jagatsinghpur. Balangir: Tension prevailed at Kantabanjhi police station on Friday evening as police had to lathicharge to disperse an agitating crowd of some 5,000 people. They were protesting against the arrest of a few brick kiln owners of Andhra Pradesh. Balangir police had raided some hotels on Thursday night and had detained 22 brick kiln owners of Andhra Pradesh as well as three hotel owners of Kantabanjhi.
