Bhubaneswar: The state government on Tuesday sanctioned special housing assistance under Mo Kudia scheme for 5,000 calamity-hit families. Chief minister Naveen Patnaik sanctioned Mo Kudia houses for the families hit by flood, cyclone, coastal erosion and fire accidents in the state. Each beneficiary will now be eligible for a financial assistance of between Rs 45,000 to s 48,500. Bhubaneswar: Prominent CPI(ML) leader and Chasi Mulia Adivasi Sangh advisor Gananath Patra, who was arrested in January 2010 and had since been in Choudwar jail, was released on Tuesday. Patra was arrested from Bhubaneswar for instigating the sangh to spread violence in Narayanpatna, Bandhugaon and nearby regions in Koraput district. Bhubaneswar: Chief minister Naveen Patnaik on Tuesday asked councillors of Sambalpur Municipality to wait for a month before problems in the civic body could be sorted out. The civic body has run into trouble with its new chairman in-charge Siddharth Saha. The municipality has been facing problems since the previous chairperson Reena Trivedi lost a no-confidence motion in the municipality. Cuttack: Around two platoons of police force have been deployed at Quadam Rasool that witnessed a violent group clash on Monday night. The incident took place when a group of people, not happy with the working of the present secretary of the society Mirza Nisar Baig, were organising a signature campaign against him and Baig’s supporters attacked them. Five persons were injured in the incident. Bhubaneswar: A group of students in Rourkela on Tuesday met police superintendent Himanshu Lal and submitted a written complaint regarding the increasing cases of gambling in various parts of the city. The increasing instances of gambling would lead to a wrong impact among the mass, said a student. The Rourkela police assured them of action. Bhubaneswar: Narsinghpur forest division on Tuesday seized wooden planks worth Rs 40,000 while it was being smuggled out of state. The forest officials have also arrested one person in this connection. The forest division has been witnessing large-scale cutting of trees, which were smuggled out of the forest. Sources said the forest officials were interrogating the accused to trace others who were involved in this illegal business. Bhubaneswar: Maoists have killed one daily labourer in Koraput on Monday night suspecting the person to be a police informer. The Maoists slit the throat of Subhra Huika, 30, with sharp weapon at Odia Pentha village in Narayanpatna, 85kms from Koraput.
