Congress-BJD clash over rally in Puri

Puri: Tension erupted in Puri town on Wednesday after Congress supporters allegedly attacked participants of a rally being organised by Biju Janata Dal (BJD). The agitated BJD workers staged a road blockade at Mochi Sahi demanding arrest of the culprits. The district Congress leaders, on the other hand, said that a faction of BJD was behind the incident and their party workers were not involved.

Elephant dies

Dhenkanal (PTI): The carcass of a female elephant was found inside a jungle in Dhenkanal district on Wednesday. “The female elephant was pregnant and she died because of kidney infection. Her calf had died inside the womb which led to infection in the mother,” said Sunik Kumar Dalei, divisional forest officer, Dhenkanal.

Bus mishap

Jajpur: At least 30 persons, including eight women, were injured after a bus in which they were travelling plunged into a canal beside the Balichandrapur-Indupur road at Pigiria in Jajpur district on Wednesday. Among those injured, four have been admitted to the SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack. The driver, conductor and helper of the bus fled from the scene soon after the mishap, police said.

Throat slit

Jajpur: One person slit the throat of a three-year-old boy in a bid to snatch a gold chain in a village in Jajpur. The seriously injured boy was rushed to a local hospital and later shifted to the Sishu Bhavan in Cuttack. The attacker slit the child’s neck when he saw the kid’s mother came to the rescue of the child. He later fled the scene leaving the chain.

Teachers’ test

Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Teachers’ Eligibility test will be held on December 2 at 389 centres across the state. Around 5,000 students are likely to appear in the test, which would make them eligible for the teaching posts in the state government.

Art exchange

Bhubaneswar: An international craft exchange programme will begin in Raghurajpur craft village from October 13. It will feature 30 artists from 10 countries. The 37-day programme will include five workshops where local and international craftsmen will share the art techniques of their respective countries.
