Berhampur: Chief minister Naveen Patnaik went on an inauguration-spree in Ganjam district on Friday ahead of the general elections. He attended 30 programmes for inaugurating and laying foundation stones of various projects. He also went to two public meetings in Seragada, Hinjili and Kavisurya Nagar blocks during his whirlwind visit to Ganjam, which happens to be his home district. At a public meeting in Barida village, Naveen listed out several welfare schemes take up by his government during the past 14 years. “Our main endeavour is the development of the people of our state,” he said. The “Poll stats” chart that was carried with the report titled “Naveen’s knock-out punch” in the January 10 edition of The Telegraph erroneously mentioned that the Congress had won five wards in the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation elections. The party has actually won in two wards. The error is regretted. Bhubaneswar: Tension prevailed in Similiguda block in Koraput district as people opposed to exploration and transportation of bauxite from the Mali hills. Nearly 200 people sneaked into the office of a transportation company and ransacked its premises. They have allegedly destroyed nearly 22 vehicles. The local residents alleged that the supporters of the company had attacked them and injured four of their members. The police imposed Section 144 of the CrPc to maintain law and order there. Cuttack: Highway policing was the centre of discussion at the 57th Senior Police Officers' Conference that was inaugurated by director general of police Prakash Mishra here on Friday. Talking on the sidelines of the conference, Mishra advocated for better intelligence collection to prevent incidents of loot, extortion and other crimes on the national highways. Bhubaneswar: A new housing project has come up for central government employees at Kendriya Vihar-1, Begunia Barehi. Secretary of the Union ministry of housing and urban poverty alleviation Arun Kumar Mishra inaugurated the residential complex, which has been built by the Central Government Employees’ Welfare Housing Organisation. Berhampur: Former MLA Narayan Sahu died at his native village Angaragaon in Beguniapada block of Ganjam district on Thursday night. He was 90.
