Bhubaneswar: Unidentified goons allegedly looted Rs 19.87 lakh from Sundargarh Central Cooperative Bank’s Badagaon branch in Sundargarh by breaking into the strong room. The matter came in to light after the bank officials found the lock of the strong room broken. A complaint in this connection has been filed with Badagaon police station.

Gold medal

Bhubaneswar: Odia woman sprinter Dutee Chand on Friday won a gold medal in the 200-metre sprint on the second day of the 54th National Inter-State Senior Athletic Championship-2014 being held in Lucknow. Dutee won the event by clocking a timing of 23.72 seconds, while her state mate Srabani Nanda won the bronze in the same event with a timing of 23.82 seconds.

Artha Tatwa

Bhubaneswar: Police would submit a third interim proposal with the state finance department for property attachment of Artha Tatwa group, a money collection and deposit company which have allegedly duped investors worth crores of rupees. The police said the proposal would be submitted next week. The properties include around 90 flats and other immovable properties worth Rs 80 crore.

Posco protest

Bhubaneswar: The Posco Pratirodh Sangram Samiti has decided to observe June 22, the date of signing of memorandum of understanding with the South Korean entity, as Black Day. Prashant Paikaray, spokesperson of the samiti urged the people to support their cause.

Maoists give in

Jeypore: Four Maoists surrendered before the police in Koraput on Friday. Krishna Praska, Raju Hikaka, Kosai Wateka and Durjan Mandangi were members of the Koraput-Srikakulam division of the CPI (Maoist). A reward of Rs one lakh had been announced to nab each of them.

Recheck

Bhubaneswar: Around 300 teachers in 15 groups will recheck and re-add marks of the Plus Two answer papers of all examinees from June 9 onwards. The higher education department announced this. The announcement further said rechecking and re-addition work will be done on the Council of Higher Secondary Education headquarters premises here.
