Bhubaneswar: Three Maoists were arrested during a combing operation in Koraput. The trio, identified as hardcore ultra leader Sarbu Wadeka, who was a bodyguard of Chasi Muliya Adivasi Sangh president Nachika Linga, Wadeka Siku and Wadeka Jetu, were held from a forest area on the outskirts of Podapadar, police said. Bhubaneswar: The body of a 30-year-old youth bearing deep injury marks was recovered on Friday from a pond in Puri. The deceased was identified as Debendra Nayak. Police suspect business rivalry behind the death and have sent the body for postmortem. Bhubaneswar: Three chain snatchers were arrested on Friday and two motorcycles and a gold chain were seized from them. The accused, Siba Das, Sk Babul and Krishna, were involved in chain snatching incidents on Thursday evening in the city. In another development, Paradip police also arrested five persons of a chain snatching gang and recovered gold and mobiles worth lakhs from their possession. Bhubaneswar: The school and mass education department has blacklisted two private publishers and instructed schools not to use textbooks issued by them. The department had assigned the publishers to print free textbooks under the Sarva Siksha Abhiyan schools but found them printing erroneous content on low quality paper. Bhubaneswar: Chief minister Naveen Patnaik inaugurated the central kitchen for mid-day meal in Keonjhar. The Essel Mining and Industries Ltd, a unit of Aditya Birla Group, which provided the logistic facilities and infrastructure, had signed a MoU with the state government for the mid-day meal project in 2011. Naveen also flagged off the first vehicle carrying food material to the Ranki Ashram Vidyalaya. Bhubaneswar: The ministry of women and child development has asked the Sambalpur collector to blacklist a non-government organisation Biswa. It has asked the collector not to conduct any development activities through the NGO. Biswa courted controversy following the dal scam under the state women and child development department. Bhubaneswar: Nayapalli police on Friday arrested a criminal for planning a dacoity. The accused Kabu Khan was sent to jail following rejection of his bail plea by a local court. Police said Khan belonged to a group of dacoits whose other members had been arrested earlier. Bhubaneswar: The Rastriya Swasthya Bima Yojana has registered a membership of 34 lakh families in the state. Bhubaneswar: Nearly 30,000 students of the All-India Democratic Students Organisation has written to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh demanding initiation of measures for the safety of girls and women. The students also demanded a ban on liquor sale and obscenity in media. They staged a mass rally on the Mahatma Gandhi Marg on Friday and submitted a memorandum to the state higher education minister demanding full grant to educational institutes across the state. Bhubaneswar: Sambalpur administration on Friday called a meeting of all industry heads in the peripheral areas and urged them to hold campus recruitment. The ehabilitation and periphery development advisory committee meeting also urged industries to include the development of colleges and schools under their periphery development plans. Bhubaneswar: The Ekalavya residential schools, governed by the ST and SC development department, will introduce English education through smart classes starting April. This concept is expected to aid a large number of students belonging to scheduled castes and scheduled tribe categories to improve their communication skills. Sambalpur: The Chilika Development Authority (CDA) will launch its flagship programme, Chilika Junior Ranger, on Saturday on World Wetlands Day. The programme is aimed to introduce children in the age group of 10-14 to the natural wonders of the brackish lake.
