Factory revival plea

Bhubaneswar: Chief minister Naveen Patnaik on Tuesday wrote to Union minister of state for commerce and industry Nirmala Sitharaman for revival of Neelachal Ispat Nigam Ltd, an integrated steel plat jointly promoted by MMTC, OMC and IPICOL. “There is an urgent need of improving the financial condition of the company, which is going through a depressed market condition,” he said.  

Firing case

Phulbani: The 10th phase hearing on the Gumudumaha firing incident in Kandhamal district was held at Phulbani district court on Tuesday. Witnesses presented their statements before the Justice Janab Mohammed Ajmal Commission of Inquiry. While two witnesses shared their experience of the incident and were also cross-examined, 20 affidavits were filed before the commission.

No trust

Gunupur: A no-trust motion has been moved against Gunupur NAC chairperson Kabita Sabar following the meeting of 12 BJD councillors and Rayagada district collector on Monday. According to sources, there are 16 BJD councillors out of 17 in the NAC. Twelve of the 16 BJD councillors have brought the no-confidence motion against Kabita.

Scam probe

Cuttack: Odisha crime branch has started an investigation into the money laundering scam links of mining trader Pravanjan Mohanty. While the crime branch is planning to take Mohanty on remand, he will be interrogated in both forgery and sham money deposit collection cases, said crime branch special director-general B.K. Sharma on Tuesday.

Accident

Angul: A truck ran over a Hyundai Santro car on NH-55 near Munda Chhak in Angul district on Tuesday killing the driver of the car and critically injuring two others inside it. While the driver was crushed to death inside the car, the two others were rescued from the car using a gas cutter and have been admitted to Angul district headquarters hospital for treatment.
