Sachin biopic
Bhubaneswar: The state government has made Sachin Tendulkar’s biopic Sachin: A Billion Dreams tax-free. Finance minister Sashibhusan Behera made an announcement in this regard on Tuesday. “The movie which has been made on the cricketer’s life has been made entertainment tax-free. This is definitely good news for the youth,” said the minister.
The biopic is scheduled to be released on May 26.
CM praise
Bhubaneswar: Office of the chief minister Naveen Patnaik thanked Amit Nanda who had alerted the police about four minors being transported in a bus for forced labour. Nanda had used his Twitter handle to pass the information to the police who rescued the minors from Phulbani. Police said that the minors hailing from Ganjam district were taken to Jharsuguda to work in a factory. The police have also detained three persons in this connection.
One arrested
Bhubaneswar: A 20-year-old man was arrested on Monday night near Aiginia in Khandagiri police limits for possessing a country-made pistol. The police have also seized three live ammunitions from the accused Bibhurendra Mallick, a native of Angul. The police suspected the youth of being a part of an organised arms smuggling racket.
Sex racket
Bhubaneswar: Police on Tuesday busted a sex racket operating in a house in Lingaraj police limits. The police rescued three girls and arrested three persons. The cops said that the mastermind of the racket Sunil Sabat, a native of Ganjam, was among the three persons who were arrested by the police.
Rainfall
Cuttack: The Regional Meteorological Centre, Bhubaneswar, has predicted rainfall in the interior parts of Odisha in next 48 hours. “The low pressure over Chhattisgarh is likely to trigger rain in the interior parts of Odisha. The temperature will gradually drop from May 25,” said director of Met Sarat Chandra Sahu. Titilagarh recorded the highest temperature of 46.5 degrees Celsius followed by Balangir, which recorded a temperature of 46 degrees Celsius on Tuesday.
Mountaineer
Bhubaneswar: Mountaineer Kalpana Dash, the first Odia woman who scaled Mount Everest in 2008, has been admitted to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack on Monday night following severe stomach ache. Dash is at present undergoing treatment at the surgery ward of the hospital. Her condition is stated to be critical by hospital sources.
Road mishap
Bhubaneswar: At least two persons were killed and 25 others were injured when a bus turned turtle at Saratchandrapur in Mayurbhanj district on Tuesday. The injured were taken to Baripada hospital and are said to be out of danger.
