New coach

Bhubaneswar: Former Indian cricketer Shiv Sunder Das on Thursday took over as coach of the Odisha Ranji Cricket team, replacing another former Odia international cricketer Debashis Mohanty. Mohanty was a medium-fast bowler.

Gun unit busted

Cuttack: Police on Thursday busted an illegal country-made gun-manufacturing unit at Sankarpur Matha Sahi in Choudwar police limits in Cuttack district and arrested two persons in this connection. The police have seized five country-made guns and other weapons during the raid.

Accident

Bhubaneswar: As many as eight persons were killed in separate road accidents in the state on Thursday. Three persons died on spot after a Haiwa truck collided with a tractor on NH-16 near Gadakhurda. In another mishap, four persons were killed and two injured when their car hit a roadside tree near Dhama Square in Sambalpur.

Dhenkanal: A 15-year-old girl suffered critical head injuries after a ceiling fan fell on her in a classroom at the Sulakhyana Devi Girls’ High School here on Thursday. Critically injured Mili Sethy has been admitted to the district headquarters hospital.
