Bhubaneswar: The Hirakud Dam will release the season’s first floodwater on July 23 due to rise in the level of water beacuse of incessant rains triggered by low pressure in the upper catchments areas of Mahanadi.
Jumbo threat
Bhubaneswar: Elephant menace was reported from some parts of Sundergarh and Keonjhar on Friday. A herd of elephants went on a rampage in Ganighasa village under Kuliposh forest range under Bonai sub-division and injured a woman.
Old notes
Puri: The Puri Jagannath Temple administration here is also now at a fix as the banned notes continue to be recovered from several hundis (donation boxes) after the demonetisation drive. Devotees are still dropping the demonetised notes of Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 at the donation boxes.
Ostracised
Sundargarh: After the death of Phagu Pethei, his wife Asha and son requested the villagers to help them in cremation. The local residents rejected the request as the family was ostracised in the village. They asked the mother-son duo to pay Rs 10,000 if they wanted help.
