Road rage

Bhubaneswar: Goons assaulted an auto-rickshaw driver on Janpath near Kharavela Nagar here on Thursday. The incident occurred at 2pm when the three criminals thrashed the driver for overtaking their two-wheeler. Later, police arrested the three.

Fire

Malkangiri: Panic gripped the Malkangiri collector’s office when a fire broke out in the building on Thursday. Two fire tender units were pressed into service to douse the flames. The incident created panic in the office and the employees were evacuated unharmed. Many official documents, records, office equipment, including computers and wooden cabins, were damaged in the fire, sources said.

Beaten up

Kendrapara: A youth was beaten up by villagers of Jagannathpur in Kendrapara district after he was caught while attempting to loot a house along with his two aides on Wednesday night. After beating the youth, the villagers tied him to an electric pole.

Minister to step down

Bhubaneswar: Forest and environment minister Bijayshree Routray announced on Thursday that he would not contest the next Assembly election. Routray told The Telegraph that while contesting the 2014 elections, he had assured the people of his constituency that he would not contest elections in future. “My declaration is in tune with my assurance,” he said. 

Film city

Bhubaneswar: The much awaited film city in Odisha where tourists will have Disney World-like experience will come up shortly in Chilika, Asia's largest brackish water lagoon. The proposed project, born from the Make in Odisha campaign launched by the Odisha government to make investment in the film production sector, will be a film city set up at an investment of Rs 5,000 crore on the shores of the Chilika.

Fraud cuffs

Bhubaneswar: Police on Thursday arrested two persons in connection with running a job racket in the home department. The accused were identified as Manas Patra and Raghunath Patra. While Manas works as a home guard with Odisha police, Raghunath is a driver of Mancheswar PCI van. They allegedly duped a person of Rs 1.50 lakh on the pretext of providing a job to his son in the home department.

AIIMS

Bhubaneswar: The out-patient department of the All-India Institute of Medical Sciences here was closed just after two hours into patient check-up on its very first day of operation. Political interference is believed to be behind the shutdown.

No-trust

Jajpur: A no-trust motion was been brought against Vyasanagar Municipality chairperson Sabita Rout on Wednesday for the second time this year.
