Kendrapara: The police on Sunday arrested two cyber-savvy youths who had allegedly uploaded an objectionable video of a college student on social media platforms and had made it viral.
The arrested youths - Soumya Ranjan Behera and Tapas Rana - had stealthily photographed the minor girl, a student of a local polytechnic college. Both tried to blackmail the victim and asked sexual favour from her. They had also threatened the victim to upload her nude video on social media network if she did not please them. As the victim had refused to fall into their trap, the accused persons had made the video viral on social media platform, said inspector of Derabish police station Sudhir Sahu.
The police probed the matter following the complaint lodged by the victim girl. The cyber crime wing of state police assisted the Derabish police in the probe. After prima facie evidence was found, the accused youths, both aged 20, were arrested on Sunday. Both have reportedly confessed to committing the crime during interrogation.
They have been booked under sections 292 (representation of person or any other object in obscene manner), 294 (obscene act), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt),506 (criminal intimidation) and 509 (gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman) of the Indian Penal Code, along with relevant sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offence Act, 2012, and the Information Technology Act, 2000.
