Bhubaneswar, April 11: A committee that was supposed to conduct an inquiry into alleged irregularities in the Plus Two examinations held last month has been unable to begin work for the want of a formal notification regarding its constitution.
In meetings held on March 28 and 29, the general body of the Council of Higher Secondary Education (CHSE), which conducts Plus Two examinations in the state, had resolved to appoint a seven-member committee to probe the procedural irregularities in the exams.
Members of the CHSE general body alleged that the council was expected to notify the government about the constitution of the committee immediately after the meeting but had not done so as yet.
“I will retire from service on April 30 and as an ex-officio member of the council, I was hoping to complete the inquiry into the irregularities, if any, as early as possible and submit a report to the CHSE by April 25. However, because of the delay in bringing out a formal notification, the inquiry has not taken off,” said principal of BJB (Junior) College S.N. Mohanty, who is supposed to head the seven-member committee.
Mohanty said the committee would not only look into the complaints of tagging of colleges, squad inspection at exam centres and the appointment of external as well as internal examiners but also suggest measures for the permanent elimination of such discrepancies in Plus Two exams.
“Two days ago, I had requested the CHSE chairman, Nihar Ranjan Pattnaik, to notify the government regarding the committee’s appointment by Wednesday. In case this is not done, the members will bring the matter to the notice of the government for appropriate action as this is in the interest of thousands of students,” he said.
Pattnaik said the committee had not been constituted since the proceedings of the meeting were awaited. “At the meeting, we had discussed introducing certain reforms in the exam system. Until the proceedings are brought out, there is no question of appointing a committee.”
