Bhubaneswar, Feb. 6: The National Institute of Science Education and Research (Niser) is set to welcome Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who will formally inaugurate the institute tomorrow.
Modi will arrive on the Niser campus by helicopter at 9am. A helipad has been created for the arrival of Modi and chief minister Naveen Patnaik near the Jatni tehsil office.
After a brief interaction with the students and faculty members, Modi will watch a three-minute audio-visual clip on the institute. He will also address members of the institute, before leaving for Puri.
Preparations are on in full swing for Modi's arrival on the campus. A new gate with the name of the institute inscribed on it has been completed. Governor S.C. Jamir, chief minister Naveen Patnaik, Union tribal affairs minister Jual Oram, Union petroleum minister Dharmendra Pradhan, Atomic Energy Commission chairman Sekhar Basu and Union minister of state for Northeast development Jitendra Singh will attend the inauguration programme among other dignitaries.
The institute was established in 2007 and academic sessions were initially conducted at the Institute of Physics, Bhubaneswar. However, the institute moved in to its permanent 298-acre campus in June last year.
Niser offers integrated five-year master's programmes in various branches of basic sciences to students, apart from various PhD programmes. It admits students through the National Entrance Screening Test.
Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh had laid foundation stone of the campus of the institute on December 27, 2009.
About 40 platoons of police force will be deployed at the institute tomorrow to ensure that there is no law and order problem. Director-general of police K.B. Singh, who reviewed the security arrangements on the campus today, said an inspector general and four police superintendents would be stationed at the venue tomorrow.
