Ongoing construction at the new multi-storey government office building in Bhubaneswar on Sunday.

The government's plan to bring all administrative units under one roof will reduce time on work with people no longer needing to run from one office to another for official purposes. Construction of the "New Nautala" or "heads of department building" at Unit-V is ongoing on a war footing after the works department expedited the work.

"L&T has been awarded the tender to construct the buildings and asked to complete the work by 2018," said D.B. Behera, executive engineer of the public works department.

L&T will construct three separate nine-storey towers. Among the facilities at the proposed towers, being built on three adjacent platforms, is space for basement parking. The three towers would be built over a total area of one lakh square feet. The first tower is expected to open next March.

At present, the construction of the first tower is on in full swing. Officials of the works department are making regular visits to inspect the construction.

Behera told The Telegraph that the government would spend Rs 123 crore on the complex. "Many state-run offices function from different parts of the state capital. A person has to run around a lot to get his work done. We thought of a centralised facility and came up with this plan," said the engineer.

However, the government is yet to decide which offices would be shifted to the new facility.
