Bhubaneswar, Sept. 23: BJD supremo and Odisha chief minister Naveen Patnaik today described state BJP unit’s allegation that his government had signed MoUs with various private companies ahead of the 2009 general elections with an intention to raise funds for the party as “false and baseless”.
On Saturday, former Odisha minister and BJP leader Bijoy Mohapatra had alleged that the Naveen Patnaik government had hurriedly recommended names of companies for coal blocks without even signing MoUs just before the Assembly elections to arrange funds.
On being asked whether Odisha would recommend for cancellation of the coal blocks allocated to fraudulent companies, Naveen said: “If there is any corruption in any company, we will take proper and transparent steps.”
While coal block allotment was cancelled for Bhushan Steel Company Limited, the Central Bureau of Investigation has filed a case against Navbharat Power Limited for selling its coal blocks to another company.
Naveen, who returned to Bhubaneswar today after a five-day visit to New Delhi, scotched rumours about his meeting with Congress leaders there before the Trinamul Congress had withdrawn support from the UPA Government. A section of the media had reported that Naveen had met Congress leaders, including Ahmed Patel.
“It’s false, incorrect and baseless,” Naveen said.
