Bhubaneswar: Chief minister and BJD president Naveen Patnaik summoned two disgruntled party leaders -former Rajya Sabha member Baisnab Parida and Gondia ex-MLA Nabin Nanda - at the state secretariat on Monday.
The two leaders had in the past expressed their resentment over the functioning of the party and the government.
Parida said he had discussed with the chief minister the non-implementation of the Odisha Official Language Act and the non-establishment of Language Commission to monitor the enforcement of Odia for official use.
"I also submitted a detailed draft on the Language Commission," he said.
Earlier Parida had aired his resentment over the issue and said that the law was not being enforced properly due to the bureaucratic apathy. He had blamed IAS officer and chief minister's private secretary, V. Kartikeyan Pandian, for the non-implementation.
"Pandian is an experienced officer and enjoys a lot of clout. Had officers like him been sincere, the Official Language Act could have been enforced long since," said Parida, who spearheads the movement to enforce Odia as official language.
There were talks in political circles that Parida's rebellion began after he was denied renomination to the Rajya Sabha.
Similarly, Nanda had alleged in the media on Sunday that the party was not functioning properly.
"There is some problem somewhere in the party. The chief minister remains in dark on many issues," he said.
However, BJD vice-president Surjya Narayan Patro had said that Nanda was no longer in the BJD.
Emerging from the meeting with Naveen, the ex-MLA said: "I told him that the party was not functioning properly and gave certain suggestions".
Asked whether he was assured of party ticket in the next Assembly elections, Nanda said: "Yes. But it does not matter whether the BJD gives me a ticket or not. My decision to contest the election is final. If denied a ticket, I will fight the poll as an independent candidate."
Nanda had earlier accused some CMO officials of meddling in party affairs.
