Bhubaneswar, Feb. 27: Various shades of nature adorned the gallery at Rashtriya Lalit Kala Akademi during the four-day photography exhibition, Colours and Nature, which concluded on Sunday. The stunning images from nature’s bounty left viewers, including noted photographers, impressed.

The ensemble of photographs was based on themes, showcasing various elements of nature. The pictures were arranged accordingly in different segments. The subject included flowers, sky, birds, insects and other elements of nature. Moreover, the young shutterbugs also presented abstract themes and photographs featuring action, portraits and a mixed bag of many other scenes from life.

Though amateur, youngsters Debanshu, Anurag, Rajalaxmi, Manas and Rina presented the photographs with impressive techniques of light and contrast. One of the most striking pictures was that of a bridge-like platform on a river that not only captured the scenic merger of water and sky, but also attracted the viewer’s thought to the adventurous wooden platform. The shots reflecting various moods of the sky were brilliant.

Almost all objects were viewed from a novel angle in the 61 photographs displayed at the exhibition, organised by photography club Debanshu And Anurag (DAA).

“We may not be professionally trained, but we travel widely and keep interacting with senior photographers. This helps us understand the techniques of photography. It not only is a hobby for us, but also has turned into a passion that we have been pursuing since long,” said Debanshu, the state head of a camera company and a member of the DAA.

Working in different fields, these youngsters, who vary in age from 23 to 33, make time to explore their love for photography by visiting scenic spots few times a year. This event, which was held from February 23 to 26, was their first exhibition.

“The pictures displayed included our photographs taken between 2006 and 2012. We wanted to share our photographs with viewers to get a feedback about our work. It was wonderful that seven of our works got sold,” said Rina, a teacher.

Many youngsters made rounds of the exhibition and shared their feelings with the shutterbugs. “I loved the pictures, especially the treatment of colours. The photos appeared to have been clicked by professionals,” said Arubdha Jena, a college student.

Veteran photographers such as Jugal Debata appreciated and encouraged the young team of photographers. “I have asked them to invite me for their next exhibition. We will be happy to display our work alongside theirs,” said Debata.
