Angul, April 1: Police have arrested a Nalco official and his wife following allegations by their newly-wed daughter-in-law that she was being harassed for dowry.

After preliminary inquiry, the police arrested Aditya Mishra, 55, and his wife Sougagini Mishra, 50, last evening.

Aditya, who belongs to Nayagarh district, is working with Nalco here in the township in the rank of manager, said the police.

Bishnupriya's husband, Tushar Ranjan Mishra, who is working in Bangalore, is absconding, said the police.

Bishnupriya got married to Tushar Ranjan seven months ago.

Now, she lodged a complaint with the police that her husband and in-laws had been inflicting mental and physical torture on her since the marriage took place last year.

The police, before making the arrests, also recovered quite a few dowry items from the Mishras and returned those articles to Bishnupriya's father, who is also a Nalco officer staying at Nalco Township.

"Ever since my marriage took place, Tushar and his parents have been torturing me for the sake of dowry. As I could not bear the torture any more, I decided to file a police complaint," Bishnupriya stated in her complaint.

"We are looking for Tushar and will nab him shortly," said a police officer.
