Paradip: A man hacked his 26-year-old brother to death over land dispute in Jagatsinghpur.
Sub-divisional police officer Siba Charan Mallick said the murder, which took place on Monday evening, was the fallout of dispute over the share of ancestral agriculture land.
The deceased has been identified as Sagar Bhoi while the assailant was his brother, 24-year-old Prakash Bhoi. Prakash is on the run.
The murder took place when the land was being measured and demarcated by an amin of the local revenue inspector's office.
Prakash protest against the manner in which the measurement was being done by the revenue staff. He suspected foul play and alleged the amin had been bribed. Later, Sagar stubbornly objected to the bribery charge and Prakash to apologise. An exchange of words ensued. At that point, Prakash suddenly lost his cool, picked up an axe lying nearby and dealt a lethal blow on his brother's head.
Sagar bled profusely and died on the way to the hospital. He was received dead by hospital authorities, police said.
The crime was committed in a sudden fit of rage. It was not pre-planned. Those who witnessed the murder hardly got the time to react and stop the accused. They couldn't do anything but watch in stunned silence, the police said quoting eyewitness accounts.
