Bhubaneswar: Youngsters are going on trekking expeditions to hills and hillocks at various districts across the state during monsoons.
With the nature displaying its beautiful green landscapes in the rainy season, people have started taking interest in adventure tourism in Mayurbhanj, Koraput, Kalahandi and various hillocks on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack.
A group of youngsters from the city trekked to the Deomali hills in Koraput last week.
"Trekking during the monsoon season is hectic. But, it is also soothing because nature is at its best. Our aim is to popularise the districts that are rich in natural beauty and give youngsters the opportunity to indulge in adventure tourism," said tour operator Manish Behera.
Many travelled to local sites to explore their hobbies of photography and bird watching. Cycling expeditions to the hillocks are also being organised by various adventure groups.
"It was a bit risky to trek at this time. But, the experience was memorable. We took the help of local residents to find our way out," said Lokesh Jena, who recently went on a cycling expedition.
Jena with his four friends scaled Mahendra Giri, the second highest peak in the state at 1,501 metres, at Paralakhemundi.
A number of theatre festivals and workshops are also being hosted at this time.
Barsha Utsav, a festival of dance and music inspired by the moods of the monsoons, was organised recently at Rabindra Mandap here. Odia singer Ira Mohanty, Goutam Giri, Bobby Raj and choreographer Girish Mohanty performed at the event.
