
Bhubaneswar, Jan. 18: Law students from across the country today took part in the third National Mock Trial Competition 2017, organised by the School of Law, KIIT University.
The students played various roles and enacted on trails.
"It was an enriching experience for the law students," said the event's organising secretary Ali Moid.
"We realise that strong advocacy skills, ability to think logically and objectively and neat draftsmanship are part of a world-class legal education. With that aim in mind, our law school has formulated the Trial Appellate and Advocacy Society. Earlier, our students took part in various trial advocacy competitions across the country, where they won laurels and appreciation," said school director N.K. Chakrabarti.
The event, organised in collaboration with The Telegraph, provided a platform to more than 50 students from 16 various institutes to witness the feedback by eminent judges and the advocacy skills of students.
Students from the National Law University, Odisha, Utkal Law College, National Law Institute University, Bhopal, Rajiv Gandhi National University of Law, Patiala, Damodaram Sanjivayya National Law University, Vishakhapatnam, Symbiosis Law School, Noida and the Symbiosis Law School, Pune took part in the event.
Altogether 24 teams were formed with each having two speakers and one researcher. Participants were only allowed to wear advocates' attire or black and white formals during the competition. Faculty convener Paromita Chattoraj drafted the plot, on which the students enacted.
The best team will win a trophy and cash prize of Rs 50,000, the runners up will get a trophy and cash prize of Rs 30,000 and the second runners up will also get a trophy and cash prize of Rs 15,000. There will be trophies and cash prizes of Rs 10,000 each for the best student advocate and the best-written brief award.
Various series of mock trial will be held at the competion which will continue for two more days.
