Paradip, Aug. 9: Police have registered cases against two sitting BJD MLAs of Jagatsinghpur following complaints against them for submitting false information while filing their nomination papers for the 2009 Assembly polls.

BJD district unit president and Jagatsinghpur MLA Bishnu Charan Das has been accused of suppressing facts about property and MLA from Tirtol Rabindranath Bhoi of submitting false affidavit on about educational qualifications to the Election Commission. The police have registered cases against the MLAs acting on separate complaints lodged by the district Congress unit.

“Two separate FIRs were lodged alleging that Das and Bhoi had suppressed facts regarding property and educational qualifications, respectively. The complaints stated that they did so while filing the nomination papers for the 2009 Assembly polls,” said Jagatsinghpur police chief Satyabrata Bhoi.

The matter has also been referred to the district magistrate, as he was the returning officer. The police was conducting separate investigations into the two cases.

Das had allegedly not declared a piece of land within Jagatsinghpur municipal limits. He had declared the plot to be in his wife’s name. Bhoi claimed that he was a graduate. Subsequently, Bhoi admitted that he was not a graduate.
