Berhampur, Dec. 5: GRP officials rescued an eight-year-old girl, who was missing for the last 10 days, from Berhampur railway station last night and admitted her to MKCG Medical College and Hospital.
The girl was bleeding profusely and crying in distress at the time of rescue.
Ganjam police superintendent Narasingha Bhol said that the girl, a native of Ganjam district, might have been sexually assaulted.
"Some people saw her crying near the second-class waiting room. She was profusely bleeding as well. We rushed her to MKCG Medical College and Hospital," said GRP superintendent Sanjeev Kumar Kaushal.
The GRP had also informed about the case to nearby Patapur police station.
"We have not yet questioned the girl as her treatment is more important. But, we will help Patapur police in the probe," Kaushal said.
The girl's father said that his daughter had gone to a Shiv temple in the village to attend a Ramayan show about 10 days ago and did not return home.
"We will record her statement as she recovers. We are not ruling out a sexual assault," Bhol said.
"My daughter, who was following my son on her way back from the show, lost her way. We all searched for her, but in vain. I thought somebody might have kidnapped her and lodged a missing complaint at Patapur police station," he said.
Bhol said that the girl had undergone tests at MKCG Medical College and Hospital.
