Markets to ease snarls

The civic body will shortly develop two vegetable markets to ease traffic on two major thoroughfares of the city.

Sambalpur, Aug. 17: The civic body will shortly develop two vegetable markets to ease traffic on two major thoroughfares of the city.

Vendors operating along the Ainthapali-Budharaja Road will be accommodated in a market at Santi Nagar, while vendors doing business along Golebazar Road will get permanent shops at Kamli Bazar weekly market.

Initially, the corporation had planned to develop a vegetable market for the vendors operating along the Ainthapali-Budharaja Road at Ainthapali. But later, the civic body shifted the plan to Santi Nagar as they did not get suitable land at Ainthapali.

Deputy commissioner of Sambalpur Municipal Corporation Sudhansu Bhoi said: "The land at Santi Nagar is located near Bhima Bhoi Park. More than 300 vendors will be accommodated in the two markets at Santi Nagar and Kamli Bazar."

The Kamli Bazar weekly market, which is the oldest in the city, is now lying in a dilapidated condition. Residents of Sambalpur hoped that the market would get a fresh lease of life as the old structure will also be renovated during construction of new shops. They also hoped that the new markets would help ease traffic in the city.

The market is lying in a neglected condition now. residents of the city are hopeful that the market will get new lease of life. The residents expressed he hope that relocation of vendors will ease off the traffic movement on the roads of the city.
